Taxonomy/phylogeny: There are two taxonomic systems for genus Salmonella, but the old system has mainly been abandoned. The names av the different subspecies of Salmonella enterica should accordingly be:  Salmonella enterica subsp. arizonae, Salmonella enterica subsp. enterica, Salmonella enterica subsp. diarizonae, Salmonella enterica subsp. houtenae, Salmonella enterica subsp. indica och Salmonella enterica subsp. salamae.

Only Salmonella enterica subsp. arizonae and Salmonella enterica subsp. enterica are included in VetBact.

We strongly recommend the new system to be used.
