Macromorphology (smell):
Paeniclostridium sordellii
Form small colonies (1-4 mm in diameter), which may spread on th plate to a continuous film (the bacteria "swarm").
Micromorphology: Large motile peritrichous rods (0.5-1.7 x 1.6-20.6 µm) with flagella. Produce oval, central or subterminal spores. Most strains are β-hemolytic on rabbit blood agar.

Taxonomy/phylogeny:
Paeniclostridium sordellii
Only two differens species have been descibed within the genus Paeniclostridium. P. sordellii is closely related toP. ghonii, for which the genus affiliation alse has been changed. Paeniclostridium is, as the namy implies, closely related to the genus Clostridium.
Please note that the name of the bacterium in the tree (Fig. 31:2) is still Clostridium sordellii.
