Streptococcus dysgalactiae  Streptococcus dysgalactiae  Streptococcus dysgalactiae
SELMA- or SELMA Plus plates are used for cultivation of samples from suspected mastitis cases.
Disease:
HostsDiseaseClinical picture
CattleMastitisVarying symptoms from severe clinical mastitis with fever and severe swelling, to subclinical mastitis without clinical symptoms. The bacterium can be spread both between cows and from the environment to the udder
Sheep (lambs) and goatArthritis, septicemia, meningitisPolyarthritis, most common cause of infectious arthritis in lambs aged up to four weeks

Taxonomy/phylogeny:

About 100 species have been described within the genus Streptococcus. Many species within the genus Enterococcus have earlier been classified as streptococci and, thus, they are closely related. S. dysgalactiae is closely related to S. agalactiae.
Comment:Belongs to Lancefield's group C streptcocci.
