Taxonomy/phylogeny:
Mycobacterium leprae  
About 175 species have been described within genus Mycobacterium and this genus is closely related to Rhodococcus, Nocardia and Corynebacterium.
Comment:There is no type strain defined, because M. leprae cannot be cultivated on artificial media.
